about

Ol' Man River is a 2 part series where we are paying a psychedelic tribute to Bhupen Hazarika; singer, lyricist, musician, poet and film-maker from Northeast India. He transformed music into hope for humanity with his powerful lyrics and unique voice. In Bhupen Hazarika's compositions one can see the confluence of music and literature with most of his songs recognised as beautiful poetry.

2 of Bhupen Hazarika's beautiful songs and personal expressions have been used to recreate a Psychedelic Musical Journey, Dancing through The Mountains......about the Mountains!!

TRACK 1: ড: ভূপেন হাজৰিকা: ঐ নিলাজ পাহাৰ (O' SHAMELESS MOUNTAIN - Sanathana Remix - 150 BPM) is a story of a jilted lover. Heart broken, lonely, filled with pain, inadequacy, anger and shame he takes it out on the distant mountain who he thinks is making a mockery of him. [From the Assamese movie Bonoriya Phool (Wild Flower) directed by Atul Bordoloi & released in the year 1973]

TRACK 2: ড: ভূপেন হাজৰিকা: সুউচ্চ পাহাৰৰ শৃঙ্গলৈ উঠা মই এক প্ৰেমিক অশ্বাৰোহী (WHEN THE MOUNTAINS CALL- Sanathana Remix -210 BPM) is the story of a Lover, Rebel and a Rider & his journey to the distant mountains where lives the Mistress of Desire… anticipation in his every breath, in his every heartbeat of meeting an unknown, unseen enchantress – so near, yet so far away- as he gallops away on his horse with the universe by his side and in the speed of the light … whilst in between stands as a barrier…mocking him & laughing out loud …a black hole of chaos. Did the Rider make it? (Composed by Bhupen Hazarika sometime in the 1960's)

All proceeds from sales will go to the Lynti Khasi School of Umsawwar – a small remote village of farmers & shepherds located in Meghalaya, Northeast India- to help better its infrastructure and much more including funding the higher studies of the pass-outs of Lynti Khasi School. The Lynti Khasi School, with its bare basic facilities, is trying really hard not only to educate the children of Umsawwar but to also strike a balance between education & the centuries-old traditional livelihood of the community where the children help their parents in the daily chores of rearing and farming.
