about

"BHOOTA KALA is made in RAAG SHREE. It is also part of the Panch Mukhi Raags, the five Raags hummed by the five-headed Sada Shiv, the highest manifestation of Shiva. This Raag sung during sunset creates a majestic and graceful atmosphere that provokes the thoughts of the listener. It expresses dedication and devotion, and yet it is intense and anxious, perhaps the best depiction of the Autumn season which this Raga represents. When I was learning this Raag I had just learned about the tradition of Bhoota Kola festival celebrated in parts of coastal Karnataka. They have dancers who wear elaborate costumes where local spirits or deities (bhūtas, daivas) are being channelised through dance and these performances are truly mesmerising and whole villages gather to experience this. It's what Bruce Lee said, be water, my friend!" (Haavi)
