This is the second release of Kamakhya Records' SOUND OF THE WOMB Series under our FOLK PSYCHEDELIA PROJECT.
\\
The Dhool, a double-headed folk drum from Assam in Northeast India is the central character of the SOUND OF THE WOMB Series. In the folk tradition of Assam, the Dhool is seen as feminine because of their hollow bodies (symbolic of the womb) and soft skins, and when the rigid sticks produce sounds by striking, rubbing, or plucking the stretched membranes it is considered as an act of making love
\\
The Dhool Samples used in this series were recorded at Breeze Studio, Jorhat, Assam, and the Dhool was played by local artist Achyut Bora.
\\
IT IS AMAZING how Modular Monkey has done this EP which is a part of Kamakhya Records' Folk Psychedelia Project with the Dhool (a double headed folk drum from Assam associated with fertility and spring) samples from Assam. He took one year to complete the EP.
\\
When we sent him the Dhool samples last year, he sent 5 modular live jams over a period of time and 2 videos of those jams. The shortest jam was 25 minutes. All so good that these jams could have been easily released. But the Monkey said he was only getting into the groove, warming up, and trying to understand the interplay of the Modular synth with the central character of the EP which is the Dhool.
//
During this creative process, he composed the killer track "A Very Strange Meaning" (175 BPM) for the first compilation of the Sound of the Womb Series (released April 14, 2022). Goa Gil set the morning dance floor on fire by playing this track at the Shankara Festival in Switzerland thereby taking the sound of the Dhool from Assam to the Global Dance floor.
\\
For the Live Modular Jam EP, he did 3 Live Recordings over a period of time, rejected 2 and at the end finalised one (62 minutes). There is a killer video too of the entire jam also edited by the Monkey.
\\
If there is METHOD ACTING in cinema (a range of training and rehearsal techniques that seeks to encourage sincere and expressive performances through identifying with, understanding, and experiencing a character's inner motivation and emotions) this has to be METHOD MUSIC MAKING.
\\
Thank You Modular Monkey for staying invested in this creative process & idea in such a meticulous way and with such passion which is so rare in the scene.
\\
More power to you !! Can't wait to have you with us in Assam.
