SOUND OF THE WOMB Part 3: the third and final installment from our Sound of the Womb Series (PROJECT FOLK PSYCHEDELIA)
\\
The Dhool, a folk drum from Assam, Northeast India is the central character of the SOUND OF THE WOMB SERIES. In the folk tradition of Assam, the Dhool is seen as feminine because of their hollow bodies (symbolic of the womb) and soft skins, and when the rigid sticks produce sounds by striking, rubbing, or plucking the stretched membranes it is considered as an act of making love.

The Dhool Samples used by the artists to create their magic in this 3 part series were recorded sometime in November 2021 at Breeze Studio, Jorhat, Assam, and the Dhool was played by local artist Achyut Bora.
--
Apart from the Dhool Samples, the track HIERO UTERO by VUTTUN has an additional sample of a prayer from Dhekiakhuwa Bornamghor, a 16th-century community prayer hall located in Assam, Northeast India. The prayer is from the book called NAAM GHOSHA written in about 1568–1596. It extols the practice of chanting as the most efficacious means of devotion
\\
The idea behind PROJECT FOLK PSYCHEDELIA of Kamakhya Records is to establish a dialogue between Northeast India's Folk Music and Electronic Music cutting across genres and styles.
\\
Northeast India is home to 150 tribal communities each with its own folk songs, folk dance, and folk instruments. This makes the region a paradise for ethno-musicians. There is folk music for every occasion – from lullabies to wedding songs, to war songs, to songs sung during farming, hunting, fishing and even cooking, or in the event of a death in the village or family.
\\
We will continue this dialogue between Northeast India's Folk Music and Electronic Music in the coming months and years.
