about

AMORABATTY (in Assamese) or Amaravati in Sanskrit was once a renowned center of Buddhist learning from the 2nd century BC to the 3rd century AD. The historic site at Andhra Pradesh in South India is home to the Amaravati Stupa, now in ruins, which was built during the reign of the Indian emperor Ashoka (268–232 BC). In Indian mythology, Amaravati is the capital of the celestial beings, the city of Indra, the guardian (dikpāla) of the eastern direction.
